Thailand Shoppers' Paradise
Over the last few years, Thailand has worked hard to build on its well established reputation for retail bargains by adding top quality luxury goods and sophisticated shopping experiences to the Kingdom's list of attractions.
This year, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has once again joined forces with Visa and some of Thailand's biggest retail brands to promote the annual extravaganza known as the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale.
The sale, which began on June 15, will run until August 15 and takes place across various destinations including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Samui, Hat Yai, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Udon Thani. And thanks to the TAT's Discover Thainess' marketing campaign, shoppers who can also receive special additional discounts.
The Amazing Thailand Grand Sale is always an eagerly anticipated event among bargain-hunting locals and tourists who love to take advantage of Thailand's unparalleled shopping and pick up big-brand goods at the best prices, said Vilaiwan Twichasri, TAT's Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business Aid. This year our Discover Thainess tourism campaign has influenced the sale with special incentives for shoppers who appreciate the Thai people's innate sense of fun.
For an extra element of fun, major discounts of up to 80 per cent will be offered to shoppers, Thai and foreign, who wear traditional Thai dress to shop at participating stores during the sale. This special activity has been inspired by the TAT's campaign to promote the unique elements and cultural gems of Thai culture, Vilaiwan added.
The highly-anticipated annual sale has been running since 1999, and is the biggest event of its kind in the Kingdom, with 110 different shopping malls taking part nationwide. Offers in the past have included between 5 to 80 percent off selected items, encompassing everything from electronics to fashion items.
Popular malls taking part in the sale this year include Bangkok's Siam Paragon, Siam Centre, CentralWorld, Terminal 21 and Emporium, among many others. As well as being well-known as shopping hotspots, many of these malls also offer plenty of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. Siam Paragon, for example, is home to Siam Ocean World and KidZania in addition to its collection of department stores and designer boutiques.
Phuket's Jungceylon Shopping Mall will also be taking part in the sale. Its multiple floors are filled with a selection of outlets, where shoppers can by anything from brand name cosmetics to a whole new wardrobe. The mall is also home to Cinema City and several gaming arcades to entertain younger visitors.
In a bid to encourage visitors to make the most of the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale, selected airlines are also offering discounts, as are some of the Kingdom's restaurants and spas. Discounts on accommodation and popular vacation activities like golf are also available. Shoppers simply need to keep their eyes peeled for the red bag symbol displayed by all the partners taking part in the sale.
